NATIONAL GALLERY SINGAPORE

EXHIBITION/UX 

JAPO Konzert- und Veranstaltungs GmbH is a German medium-sized company in the event business. It started in 1996 as a start-up project with JAPO’s founders; Robert Jacob and Gert Porstmann. JAPO GmbH have been arranging events for many renowned organisers all over Germany. Our chosen site is at the National Gallery Singapore. The space that I chose for JAPO is held on the second floor in Gallery 3: DBS Singapore Gallery right by the door. The chosen area is approximately 4m long and 17m wide, making it 68m². There are multiple reasons why I decided to pick this particular space:

• Easy circulation
• Right across the first lift lobby that is accessible directly from the entrance of the gallery itself
• Right by the door of the exhibition entrance
• Suits surrounding artworks; consists of everyday things (such as chairs, flasks etc.)

The materials used in the site can be found in the brand’s context such as metal roofing sheets and concrete blocks. The intention of combining both grey/red steel roofing materials and concrete blocks as decor is to place them onto the sides of the display counters. This is to match the material of the sanitary trailer itself while also fitting the brand’s colour scheme. White tiles are implemented onto the wall of the exhibition, while a dark grey concrete slabs are used as the flooring. Since JAPO specialises in bulky, portable sanitary products, I decided to just display the items used in their trailers and containers in the display boxes. Lastly, the roofing sheet and concrete blocks are to fill up the empty spaces.
